Abstract Submissions Are Open

The Lipedema World Congress invites scientific, clinical, and patient‑focused contributions from researchers, clinicians, allied health professionals, and patient advocates worldwide. This is your opportunity to share your work

with a global, multidisciplinary audience and help shape the future of lipoedema research, care, and policy.

Abstracts will be considered in two rounds.

  • Early‑bird round
  • Submissions received by the end of February 2027
  • Decisions communicated in March 2027.
  • Second round:
  • Submissions received by the end of May 2027
  • Decisions communicated in June 2027.

All applicants will be advised of the outcome via email, and successful abstracts will be invited to present as part of the congress scientific program.

Who should submit an abstract?

We welcome abstracts from:

  • Clinicians and surgeons working in lipoedema and related fields
  • Researchers in adipose biology, lymphatics, pain, connective tissue, and related areas
  • Allied health professionals (physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, dietitians, compression specialists, etc.)
  • Patient advocates and representatives of patient organisations
  • Health service planners, policymakers, and educators with relevant experience in lipoedema or chronic conditions

If your work advances understanding, recognition, treatment, or support for people living with lipoedema, we encourage you to submit.

Why submit an abstract for LWC III?

Presenting at the Lipedema World Congress 2027 offers:

  • A high‑profile international platform to share your research, clinical experience, or programs
  • Feedback and discussion with global experts across medicine, science, allied health, and patient advocacy
  • Opportunities to build collaborations and networks for future research and projects
  • Visibility for your institution, service, or patient organisation
  • Contribution to a stronger evidence base and improved care for people with lipoedema

Accepted abstracts will be included in the congress scientific program and promoted to all delegates.

Submission types

You may submit your work in one of the following formats:

  • Oral presentation – Short, data‑focused talks within themed scientific sessions
  • Poster presentation – Visual display of your work with dedicated time for discussion with attendees
  • Workshop – Interactive, skills‑based sessions designed to support practical learning and application
  • Case report / Clinical initiative – Focused presentations on novel cases, programs, or service developments (oral or poster)

The Program Committee will determine the most appropriate format for each accepted abstract.

Abstract categories

Submissions can be made under categories such as:

  • Clinical research and outcomes
  • Basic science and translational research
  • Surgical and procedural innovations
  • Allied health and conservative management
  • Patient experience, advocacy, and support programs
  • Education, training, and workforce development
  • Health policy, service design, and systems of care
  • Other lipoedema‑relevant topics

You will be asked to select the category that best fits your work during submission.

Abstract structure

Abstracts should be concise, clear, and structured. Unless otherwise specified in the submission portal, please use the following headings:

  • Title – Clear and specific (avoid conclusions in the title)
  • Background / Introduction – Context, what is known, and the gap your work addresses
  • Methods / Approach – Study design, setting, participants, interventions, or program description
  • Results / Findings – Key data, outcomes, or lessons learned (include numbers where relevant)
  • Conclusions / Implications – Main take‑home messages and relevance to lipoedema care, research, or policy

Word limits, formatting requirements, and whether references/tables are allowed will be specified in the submission portal. Please follow those instructions carefully.

When submitting, you will typically be asked to provide:

  • Title of the abstract
  • Author names, affiliations, and contact details (including presenting author)
  • Abstract text, structured as above
  • Selected category and keywords
  • Preferred presentation format (if applicable)
  • Disclosure of any conflicts of interest or commercial relationships
  • Confirmation that all authors agree to the submission and that the work has not been previously presented at this congress

Additional details (e.g., bios, photos, audiovisual requirements) may be requested for accepted presentations.

Preparation and submission guidelines

Before submitting, please ensure that:

  • Your abstract aligns with the congress themes and audience
  • It adheres to the word limit and formatting rules in the submission portal
  • Data presented are accurate and not misleading
  • Any patient information is fully de‑identified and ethically sound
  • You have considered any institutional or ethics approval requirements for research

All submissions must be made through the online abstract portal by the published deadline. Late, emailed, or incomplete submissions cannot be considered.

Presentation formats

Accepted abstracts may be scheduled as:

  • Oral presentations – Typically 8–12 minutes plus time for questions, within themed sessions
  • Poster presentations – Displayed in the exhibition area; presenters are expected to attend during designated poster sessions to discuss their work
  • Workshops – Usually 30–60 minutes, with interactive elements and practical take‑aways

Final format and duration will be confirmed by the Program Committee and may differ from your preference based on the overall program balance.

Disclosure and consents

By submitting an abstract, you confirm that:

  • All authors have reviewed and approved the content
  • Any conflicts of interest (financial or otherwise) will be disclosed
  • The work complies with relevant ethical standards (including ethics approval where required)
  • You consent to your abstract being reviewed, and if accepted, presented and included in congress materials (e.g., program book, app, website)

Patient stories or images must only be included with appropriate consent and de‑identification, in line with ethical guidelines.

Abstract selection and presentation

All abstracts undergo peer review by the Scientific Program Committee. Selection is based on:

  • Relevance to lipoedema and the congress themes
  • Scientific rigour and clarity
  • Originality and contribution to the field
  • Potential impact on practice, policy, or patient outcomes

Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified by the date specified on the website. At least one author must register for the congress and present the work as scheduled. Failure to present may result in exclusion from future congress programs.

Financial aid and bursaries

Limited financial aid or bursaries may be available to support attendance and presentation at the congress, particularly for early‑career researchers, clinicians from low‑ and middle‑income countries, and patient representatives. Details on eligibility, application processes, and deadlines will be provided on the website once confirmed. Availability is subject to funding and demand.
